Evelyn is a small evening purse that has a rectangular base from which the stitches for the sides of the purse are picked up and knit up to the top. Two versions are given -- one with seed stitch and one with weaver's stitch. An I-cord "string" is threaded through the top of the bag to encourage its pleated shape and to use as a handle.
This little purse can be knit with one of the many fancy Ribbon/Tape-Style Yarns available for hand knitting. Your yarn choices for this purse are numerous. Experiment with yarns that you like.
You will need a 16" Circular Needle and 5 Double Point Needles. Choose a needle one to two sizes smaller than the recommended needle size. You want to knit a fabric that is fairly firm and not too lacy, so your money won't fall out! You willl also need a few yards of waste yarn, four Stitch Markers (one in a different color), a G or H Crochet Hook and a Tapestry Needle.
