Knit this dream with 10 skeins of Worsted Weight Yarn. Be sure to include novelties, and use your stash! Skill level is easy. Finished size is approximately 18" x 60".
You will need US 11 (8mm) Circular Needles at least 32" long and an H-8 (5mm) Crochet Hook for fringing.
This FREE pattern appears below.
Design Notes:
Lay your skeins next to each other to determine an appealing sequence to follow as you begin to work with the yarn. This will provided a starting point for the design, but the sequence can certainly change as your unique design comes together. The shawl is bohemian style and the yarn sequence is not meant to be uniform. The design begins and ends with the same yarn (the base yarn), but within the design, you might only be able to do one 4 row repeat with a ball of yarn, depending on the yardage.
Gauge:
Whatever gauge you get is fine. You are making a rectangle that will measure approximately 18" long x 60" wide (or whatever size you would like to make). Knit a gauge swatch and adjust your needle size or cast on to obtain the correct size.
Instructions:
Cast on 150 stitches using smooth base yarn. (If you cast on tight, you might want to use a larger needle for your cast on.)
Knit 4 rows.
Change to a novelty yarn and Knit 4 rows.
*Change yarn and Knit 4 rows.*
Continue working * to * until shawl measures desired length ending with 4 rows of base yarn. Incorporate your base yarn throughout the project (perhaps Knit 4 rows each of 2 or 3 novelty yarns and then Knit 4 rows with your base yarn, etc.).
Bind off loosely and fringe.
Style Option:
Create a poncho! After the piece is knitted, fold in half and whip stitch the top from the open end toward the folded edge leaving a 12" opening (approx.) closest to the folded edge.
Enjoy your new Dream Shawl!
