One pattern - multiple ponchos! Choose a wooly thick and thin yarn for cold weather wear, or a bulky weight ribbon yarn for warmer weather and evenings. For warmer weather and evenings, this poncho is the perfect "barely-there layer." This poncho looks great with jeans and a skimpy tank top or as a cover-up at the beach. For cold weather, wear this poncho with a pair of boots and skirt or jeans for a warm and wonderful way to look good. One size fits most. The finished poncho is approximately 20"L x 30"W.
No matter what yarn you use to work it, the poncho has a sensuous feel, a luxurious drape and looks woven instead of crocheted due to usage of Tunisian (Afghan) crochet techniques and a very large hook. Best of all, the poncho is SUPER EASY to make, you can finish the poncho in a single weekend! The pattern uses basic stitches, minimal shaping and simple finishing. Afghan/Tunisian crochet techniques are required.
As pictured, the warm weather poncho was made with 3 skeins of Giotto by Colinette. The cold weather poncho was made with 6 skeins of Hip Hop by Berroco. Substitute yarn gauge (as stated on yarn label) for the warm weather ribbon yarn version is 11 sts = 4 inches (super bulky weight). Substitute yarn gauge for the cool weather wooly yarn version is approximately 10 sts = 4 inches (super bulky weight). To see our super bulky weight yarns, click here.
Suggested crochet hook is a Q Tunisian Crochet Hook.
