Want to get stopped on the beach for all of the right reasons? This sarong will do it! Written for the advanced beginner, the design uses a combination of knit and crochet. One size fits most. The pattern is created to fit as you go and can be easily adjusted.
The sarong waistband is knit from the bottom up, and the fringe spirals are crocheted and attached after the waistband is complete. Instructions are given for two versions of the design. The blue/green version uses one color for the waistband. The red/orange version uses a combination of 3 colors and is a great lesson in mixing yarns with the Fibonacci number system to create a natural blend.
The sarong waistband is created with Prism Bowen (75 yds/50g skein), a Bulky Weight, mesh-type yarn. The fringe is a great stash-buster using 300 yards of Worsted Weight Yarn in different textures and complimentary colors. (Pictured in Prism Cool Stuff (150 yds/85-114g skein).) The blue/green version of the design was created with 2 Prism Bowen and 1 Prism Cool Stuff, and the red/orange version was created with 3 Prism Bowen and 2 Prism Cool Stuff.
Suggested needles are US 11 (8mm) and 15 (10mm) Circular Needles at least 22" long and an H-8 (5mm) Crochet Hook. You will also need a Tapestry Needle, Scissors and a Tape Measure.
