Vintage Style

Vintage, Kelly knitting, and a 1974 AMC Matador

As early fall begins, we feature products and patterns inspired by vintage knit and crochet style, interpreted for the modern crafter. Above, we present Namaste's Vintage Knitting Bag. Vintage is inspired by a 1940's knitting bag, and this late-model classic combines the classy feel of the past with the pizzazz of the present. Read on to see the enduring appeal of vintage style.
Find Namaste Knitting Bags in vintage hues including Avocado, Cranberry, Chocolate, Dusty Rose and Camel, and featuring cool 70s inspired linings. Choose Everyday, Jetsetter, Executive, Messenger or the new Knitube. Each bag is crafted specifically for modern knitters and crocheters, offering organizational options and practicality. Everyday, Jetsetter and Executive are knit and crochet bags and purses in one, each having separate compartments to keep your purse and personal items separate from your yarn.
Flash back to the psychedelic 60s with Namaste's colorful Needle Shells and Glass Needles, and Knit-a-row-matherapy Candles.
Start the new knit and crochet season off right with an Avocado Binder! The Knitter's Binder is a unique and hip way to organize your tools and knit and crochet supplies. The Binder comes with four different "pages" for storing needles and notions. Additional pages, including crochet hook pages, allow you to customize your Binder to suit your collection.
Vogue Knitting Kits
Nicky Epstein's Felted Rose Bag, a Tilli Tomas "crown jewel" by Stefanie Japel, and the Twisted Float Shrug by Annie Modesitt are kitted up and ready to knit at Dream Weaver Yarns. All three are featured in Vogue's Silver Anniversary Issue. The Felted Rose Bag and the Twisted Float Shrug are two of Vogue's Top 10 Hits, designs that "rocked the fiber world!" The patterns are now re-published and re-colored for 2007. Kits are available to create the designs in the original colors and in new 2007 colors. Stefanie Japel's regal Hobo Hat is "knit with an embarrassment of riches from Tilli Tomas." Head turning to say the least. From the past to the present, these styles endure.
Knit Silver Belle by Debbie Bliss, Judi & Co's Silver Palette Papillon and Charmeuse Capelet or our very own Glamour Girl Ensemble designed by Phoenix Bess. Silver Belle and Judi's Capelet are available as kits.
Knit Be Sweet's Ostrich Shawl, framed at the top with luxurious Ostrich Feather Trim and available in two sizes, Large and Mini.
Vintage Technique -- Hairpin Lace
Hairpin Lace is a beautiful and easy crochet technique first popular in Victorian times. It is quick to work up and yields gorgeous results. The technique involves using a crochet hook and loom and creating strips that are then crocheted together. Try your hand at creating these impressive designs by Stitch Diva Jennifer Hansen.
New at Dream Weaver Yarns
"The most luxurious fiber in the world" is now available at Dream Weaver Yarns. The soft, fur undercoat of the Arctic Muscox is harvested (in spring/summer, as the Muscox wanders the terrain, the fur adheres to foliage, and it is hand collected) and spun into a prized fiber that is softer than cashmere and warmer than wool. Qiviuk is a fiber of exceptional quality. Purchase 100% Qiviuk or a blend of Qiviuk, merino and silk.
Knitting with Lorna's Laces
Knit these amazing designs with soft, hand-dyed Lorna's Laces yarn. Sock knitting is in! Try Lantern Moon Sox Stix (5" Rosewood Double Points).
