Swans Island's mill is one of only 4 in the United States that has a Global Organic Textile Standards certification. That means that the mill must be inspected and must conform to certain criteria to be considered organic. What this means in layman's terms is that less harsh chemicals are used in processing, thus helping the yarn retain more natural lanolin than many other commercially produced yarns.
This 100% organic merino is gently treated with organic EcoWash, which enhances the wool fibers to prevent felting. The resulting yarns feature a softer hand than Superwash products, are great to wear and can be machine-washed. Because the yarn is skein-dyed in small lots, we suggest purchasing enough skeins to complete your project, as dye lots may vary.
